As full RIPE members we are a Local Internet Registry (LIR) which means we can apply through RIPE for AS numbers, Provider Independent (PI) space and Provider Aggregatable (PA) space.
PA Space
Customers of KeConnect are assigned IP addresses from our IP space with their leased line, transit and co-location products. If a customer leaves KeConnect then the addresses are returned to our RIPE allocated block, and the customer would receive a new allocation from their new service provider.
PA space is more efficient as we give customers an assignment of IP addresses from our larger allocation, and advertise the larger allocation out to the Internet which means fewer routes in the global routing table.
With PI space, the allocated address space would be independent from our address space and therefore would have to be advertised individually, which means it is not part of a larger address block and therefore creates more routes in the global routing table.
PI Space
If a customer has their own PI space then we can advertise this address block for them.
However depending on customer requirements, PI space is not guaranteed to always be routable on the Internet. Currently most network operators filter at their network border and only allow network ranges into their AS that are /24 or larger. So for example, if in the past a customer had been issued with a /25 range via PI space, it would now not be routable on much of the Internet due to other network operators filtering to /24.
To register an AS/PI/PA space with RIPE we charge the following administration fees:
